Saleama A. Ruvalcaba is a wife to Omar, mother of five.
Omar and Saleama began homeschooling when their second son (Jaden) was in kindergarten. They had no plans to homeschool and really had no understanding of homeschooling. However, as Jaden was entering kindergarten they realized he had many communication issues. After much prayer, Omar and Saleama realized homeschooling would be the best option.
It hasn’t been an easy journey. The Ruvalcaba’s have faced many personal obstacles that have interfered with homeschooling, met with constant doubt in their own abilities – however they wouldn’t change anything.
Saleama has embraced her and her children’s strengths. As a home educator she finally found freedom years ago to celebrate herself and her children trusting God in the process! Saleama stopped comparing and started believing!
Saleama has a B.S. in Church Ministries and will graduate with a M.A. in Intercultural Theology (2019).
Omar and Saleama own and operate a homeschool physical education program in the Memphis, TN area called Gifted Athletes and are leaders of a homeschool support group called Proverbs Twenty-Two Six Homeschoolers.
Gifted Athletes started in 2015 with nine students and one class. It has since grown to five classes and the Ruvalcaba’s teach over 120 homeschool students sport fundamentals each week.
Proverbs Twenty-Two Six Homeschoolers began in 2017 with two homeschool families. At the start of the 2018-2019 school year, Proverbs Twenty-Two Six Homeschoolers now has 60 families representing 200 homeschool students.
Saleama serves as executive director for both Gifted Athletes and Proverbs Twenty-Two Six Homeschoolers.
Saleama would love to come and speak with your group to encourage and celebrate the homeschool journey! Saleama can speak to your homeschool group, or any group interested in homeschooling.
