It’s too Hot to Enjoy Summer!

Way too hot!

Author: Saleama A. Ruvalcaba, MATS

Not sure where you’re reading this at, but here in Memphis, TN, it’s hot! This has been one of the hottest summers to date. It’s not just hot, it’s no fun hot!

What are some ways you enjoy summer when it’s too hot to enjoy being outside?

For our family we love to eat!

This summer we have spent a lot of time cooking and trying new foods. Maybe that’s a way you can enjoy being inside together when it’s too hot to be outside.

This summer we made homemade banana splits,

peach milkshakes (from a summer field trip)

and how about this one; homemade copycat Taco Bell Mexican pizza!

Cooking is always a great way to learn. I surprised myself with the Mexican pizza, but God is good and He gives us wisdom and courage. I learned a lot in the process.

And with cooking there is so much science involved. Cooking is a great way to spend time together with your family.

Hit the Gym

We visit the gym and workout almost every day during the week. You might sweat, but you’re indoors getting exercise.

A lot of gyms have a day care. Our gym is a part of our church which is free to members. Most churches offer their gym use free for their members. Consider going to the gym to break away from the heat.

Family Movies

We aren’t big TV watchers, but we have enjoyed finding great family movies. This has been a lot of fun for us this summer. Just this past weekend alone we found four oldies but goodies that we have enjoyed as a family. Maybe after breakfast and morning errands or chores, make it a fun movie afternoon with your children. Get some popcorn and hot dogs for the real experience. And if you enjoy learning together, talk about elements of the movie. What did you enjoy about the movie? What did your children enjoy about it?

Allow your children to explore their hobbies more during the hotter days. When we are running around busy busy busy these hot days can be a great way to enjoy hobbies. Our daughter’s love to paint so a few weeks ago we did a paint project.

We also bought our daughter who loves to sew a crochet kit.

There are a lot of activities you can enjoy while indoors. Water parks and indoor playgrounds are always popular but with this type of heat they are also very crowded. So, if you’re not up for a big crowd consider some creative ideas on your own. Be intentional in your efforts. Learn if possible – and make it fun!

Hey, soon it will be winter, and we might be wishing for these hot days again.

Probably not!
